'Grease Live' Soundtrack to be Digitally Available to Coincide With TV Movies Upcoming Release
The official soundtrack of the "Grease Live" album will be digitally available on Jan. 31, coinciding with the three-hour, live event Fox network TV premiere of the cult classic.
Hollywood Life reports all the 1978 flick's classic hits, from "Hopelessly Devoted to You" to "Greased Lightning" will be part of the soundtrack. And before the release of the album you can download Jessie J's "Grease (Is The word)" that she will be opening the show with.
In addition, Target will be offering an exclusive CD Package with four bonus tracks that is slated to be released on March 4.
For the "Grease Live" TV remake, Julianne Hough has been cast as Sandy, Aaron Tveit as Danny, Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo, Carly Rae Jepsen as Frenchy, Carlos Pena Vega as Kenickie and Keke Palmer as Marty.
The soulful group Boyz II Men will be starring in the Teen Angels role previously made legendary by Frankie Avalon. Joe Jonas and DNCE will be performing at Rydell High's school dance.
Beyond the cast changes, there will also be several other tweaks to the plotline this time around. Songs like "Those Magic Changes" and "Freddie My Love," which were part of the original musical but not heard in the movie, will be combined for the TV version and sung by Keke.
Frenchy will also have a solo in the live musical, one that Frenchy did not have in the movie.
For Hough, she eagerly views the chance to play Sandy as the opportunity of a lifetime.
"Grease is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy," she told Entertainment Weekly. "My siblings and I watched it and played it out over and over when we were kids. This is my dream role and performing it live on television will be one of the most thrilling opportunities I've had in my career so far."
To hear Hudgens speak, the thrill for her is just as great.
"Being Rizzo is something I've never imagined, and I love that because it will be a new challenge," she said. "She is such an iconic character that continues to transcend generations. I cannot wait to bring her to life on live television."
