In an official statement by released by Michael Paull, Amazon's Vice-President of Digital Video, he states that the e-commerce giant is excited to partner up with HBO and sister channel Cinemax on bringing its award-winning and groundbreaking shows to their Amazon Channels.

According to The Verge, he also adds how this move, which started on December 1, allows Prime member to watch their favorite shows, like Game of Thrones and Westworld, without a need for a cable subscription.

Aside from HBO and Cinemax, Amazon Prime members have access to other premium channels like Starz, Showtime and Comedy Central Stand-Up for monthly subscriptions as well.

This seems to become a very viable option, as it allows subscribers to follow current episodes of hit HBO series like Insecure, Girls and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, aside from previously mentioned GOT and Westworld. They can also binge-watch previous shows like The Spranos, True and Sex in the City. Quarry, Banshee and The Knick will also be available on Cinemax's catalog. The package would also include a selection of Hollywood blockbusters.

On the flip side, the service does not carry a live stream option, something that HBO Now is offering for the same price. According to TVLine, the service is more like HBO Go, as the premium titles become available after the initial broadcast.

Started in 2006, Amazon Video, originally known as Amazon Unbox, is a Video On Demand service that offers a broad range of films, networks and original content through video streaming. The service, while available for download on several devices like Roku Player, Xbox One and Playstation 4, is still not available on popular streaming devices like Apple TV and Chromecast.
