Qualcomm, Microsoft's Cellular PC Concept, The First Windows 10 PC With Snapdragon 835
Microsoft announced at its 2016 WinHEC conference that Windows 10 will run on ARM processors by breaking Intel's bolt on the platform. While Qualcomm will do the same but there is quite possibility that Snapdragon 835 could support Windows Holographic for Virtual Reality headsets.
According to Digital Trends, Windows 10 will not only run on ARM processors but in full desktop applications like Office 2016 and Adobe Photoshop as well. With different accounts, Windows 10 will arrive first on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor in late 2017.
As of now, Qualcomm is working with the major PC makers for using Windows 10 with Snapdragon 835, and its recent chip that is presented in Sony's Xperia XZ handsets at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The objective, according to Keith Kressin, a senior vice president of product management of Qualcomm Technologies is to get something credible out, to show individuals why it is unique from RT.
PCWorld reported that last year Microsoft and Qualcomm presented an idea of cellular PCs, which are thin-and-light laptops with LTE connectivity. It will be installed with Snapdragon 835 that will give enough support to both core Windows 10 operating system and a simulation engine that will permit to run the full desktop Windows applications.
The ARM-based Windows 10 machines perform like a high-end Intel-based PC gaming system and workstation and it is anticipating that cellular PCs will arrive in smartphone-sized packages, which would appear to describe Microsoft's Surface Phone idea. The other potential outcome includes support for Windows 10 Holographic for Virtual Reality applications.
Kressin said that the cellular PCs arrival will be gradual, not like the roll-out of several PCs with its new x86 chips. The company's objective is to ensure the individuals to the purpose of cellular PCs. Though the details still remain sketchy, Qualcomm and Microsoft are now obviously dedicated to bringing new power-efficient, thin, and light Windows 10 machines to the market by the beginning in late 2017.
