Report: NASA Plans To Find 'Ocean Worlds' On Jupiter's Icy Moon
NASA has hosted the "planetary Science Vision 2050 Workshop", earlier this week at their headquarters in Washington DC. The purpose of this workshop was to present NASA's plans for the future of space exploration to the international community.
According to PHYS, NASA's plan for the exploration of Jupiter's moons Europa and other icy moons. In future, NASA hopes to send probes to this moon to investigate the ocean that lies beneath their surface. NASA scientists believe that with the missions to the ocean world the existence of life beyond Earth will look bright.
The first mission that took place on the morning of Monday with the titled "Exploration pathways for Europa after initial In-Situ Analyses for Biosignatures". In the course of the presentation, Kevin Peter Hand, the Deputy Chief Scientist has shared the information by the 2016 Europa Lander Science Definition Team.
Planetary Science Vision 2050 Workshop has reported that the plan of the mission would involve searching biosignatures and signs of life through analyses of Europa's surface and near-subsurface material. The second purpose would be to conduct analyses the characteristic the composition of the non-ice-near-subsurface material. The third would be to determine the proximity of liquid water and erupted material near the Lander's location.
NASA scientists have stated that if the Lander mission detected signs of life within Europa's ice sheet, beneath by resurfacing events, the future mission most likely involving robotics submarines. Scientists hope that any finds that are indicative of life would mean that planetary protection would be a major requirement for any future mission.
The proposed mission would require the development of power sources and energy storage systems that would be suitable for cryogenic environments. Beside this planetary protection technology would be necessary to prevent contamination, and electronic or mechanical systems, reported by NASA.
However, if all goes well, the exploration missions to Europa and other icy moons are allowed to give forward the result could be immeasurable. At the same time, the possibility of life beyond Earth would be bright.
