Marijuana Boost Cardiac Risks - Stroke, Sudden Cardiac Death & Heart Failure Increased by 26%
New Research has been conducted and suggest that Marijuana users are more likely to developed stroke and heart failures. Lifestyle, health conditions, demographic and another risk factor such as alcohol use and smoking likely add up to the effect.
According to the new research led by the cardiologist in Philadelphia, researchers have found an increase of stroke by 26 percent and an increase of heart failure by 10 percent. The said figures are just the use of Marijuana alone, it can be recalled that the previous study focuses only on the psychiatric and pulmonary complications.
This new study from Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia has focused the research the effect of Marijuana on cardiac risks. According to Dr. Adita Kalla, an Einstein cardiologist, the person who likely uses cannabis often were subject to a higher risk of developing heart failure, Science Daily has reported.
Dr. Kalla slated to present the research on March 18 at the American College of Cardiology's annual scientific session. The researchers have reviewed medical records from 1,000 hospitals having patients within ages of 18 to 55 years old.
Find out that individuals use Marijuana was associated with the increased of heart failure, the rate of stroke, sudden cardiac death, coronary artery heart disease. The study also suggests the links between high blood pressure, cardiovascular risk, alcohol use, smoking, and obesity.
Philly Voice cited that even when the researchers found and corrected some known factors, they still found a higher rate of both heart failures and stroke. Researchers believed that there's something else going on besides the suggested factors.
Dr. Kalla stated that when Marijuana affected the human heart cells, those cells becomes unable to squeeze that resulted for the heart not to pump as it used to. The study was conducted back in 2009 to 2010 when Marijuana is still illegal in most of the countries.
Now, that there are already 28 countries legalizes the use of Marijuana, Dr. Kalla wanted to raise the consequences of using cannabis. Both medical and general community should be aware of the potential cardiovascular complications rises from the use of cannabis.
