NBA News: Goran Dragic Out Vs. Pacers With Eye Injury, Will Undergo Further Medication
According to league sources, Miami Heat point guard Goran Dragic won't be suiting up for Sunday night's game against the Indiana Pacers after he took an elbow to his right eye in Saturday night's 104-89 win over the Toronto Raptors. The Sun-Sentinel's Ira Winderman has recently posted a pregame photo that featured Dragic and his swollen-shut right eye.
It's actually not the first time this season that Dragic has missed some time on the floor due to injury. According to ESPN.com, Dragic also suffered a sprained left ankle against the Chicago Bulls on November 10, but X-rays came back negative after he appeared to be in excruciating pain on the floor.
Miami's main floor general proceeded to miss the next three games, but he, later on, returned to the floor on November 17 and has been a staple of Miami's resurgence ever since. In 58 games that he's played the season, Dragic is averaging 20.1 points and 6.0 assists per game, while shooting a respectable 48.4 percent from the field which includes 42.3 percent from three-point range for a surging Miami Heat team.
According to Sports Illustrated, since the Heat doesn't have another prototypical backup point guard on the roster, they will likely turn to third-year pro-Tyler Johnson to pick up the slack. While Johnson isn't a natural primary ball-handler, he is an evolving talent who has earned loads of playing time thanks to his rapidly accelerating development over the past couple of seasons, not to mention that 52 percent of his time on the floor has seen him playing the 1 spot.
Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra has high praises for Johnson, saying that he's a "force of nature" when out there playing on the court. "Tyler doesn't do everything perfectly, and that's what I love about him. He's an ultimate competitor, and He finds a way every time," Spoelstra said.
