Joss Whedon To Write & Direct New 'Batgirl' Movie; Lindsey Morgan Could Play Barbara Gordon
Joss Whedon could be behind the "Batgirl" film starring Lindsey Morgan, according to reports. The well-known screenwriter and producer is rumored to be currently closing a deal for the standalone film under Warner Bros.
Batgirl also known as Barbara Gordon is part of the DC Comics. The "Batgirl" movie will reportedly be part of the DC Extended Universe. Variety reports eventhough it will be a standalone film, other characters from Gotham may be in it.
Apart from directing and writing "Batgirl," Joss Whedon will also produce it. The outlet adds that the movie is being supervised by Geoff Johns, Jon Berg and Toby Emmerich from Warner Bros. The untitled movie will only be the second superhero film with a female lead next to the upcoming "Wonder Woman" film starring Gal Gadot.
Information about the "Batgirl" movie is scarce. Rumors say that Lindsey Morgan will be playing the lead character, Barbara Gordon. The "General Hospital" actress is rumored to be part of the project after she posted a mysterious tweet.
ComicBook reports that Lindsey Morgan has been actively retweeting articles regarding Joss Whedon's possible involvement in the "Batgirl" film. Furthermore, she has also favorited tweets regarding the movie. The outlet says that she may very well be involved in the project or could be the titular Batgirl.
Barbara Gordon or Batgirl is the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon. According to the outlet, Lindsey Morgan would fit the role of the character because of her mixed ethnicity. This would come as a favorable move for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) as it helps superhero roles become more diverse.
Apart from "Batgirl," Warner Bros. is also currently developing "Gotham City Sirens," "Suicide Squad 2" and "The Batman." Upcoming movies from the DCEU this year include "Wonder Woman" and "Aquaman."
