NBA News: Heat Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive, Top Cavs In Thrilling OT Win
The race for the final two playoff seeds in the Eastern Conference has been entertaining and nail-biting. With the Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and Miami Heat all fighting for their playoff lives each and every night, fans have been treated with some amazing basketball.
After the Indiana Pacers and Chicago Bulls, both won their respective games, the Miami Heat had to win against a top team in the East in the Cleveland Cavaliers in order to stay alive and keep their Playoff hopes afloat. They did exactly that in an overtime thriller, defeating the Cavaliers, 124-121.
According to SB Nation, the Miami Heat never gave up after being behind for the majority of the game; they even began the fourth quarter down by 11 points, before going on a 28-6 run to take over they lead. The Cavs also went on a run of their own and even led late in the game but the Heat prevailed, forcing overtime and getting the job done during those extra minutes of basketball.
Despite several wild and questionable plays, which includes a sequence where forward James Johnson fouled Deron Williams late in overtime for a four-point play opportunity, the Miami Heat still held on for the victory. According to the Miami Herald, Miami got a boost from star center Hassan Whiteside, who tallied 23 points and 18 rebounds; Tyler Johnson also made his contribution off the bench, scoring 24 points for the night.
The Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and Miami Heat will all play in their playoff destiny this coming Wednesday. For the Miami Heat to make it to the cut, they will need a loss from the Bulls of the Pacers and a win against the Washington Wizards.
Though it is not totally under their control, the Miami Heat still have a chance to fight and make it to the Playoffs. All will go down to Wednesday's results.
