Angelina Jolie was identified as the anonymous filer of a lawsuit against the FBI under the Freedom of Information Act for withholding information about her then-husband Brad Pitt's alleged abuse.

The Wrap reported that Puck News confirmed that Jolie was the "Jane Doe" in the lawsuit, questioning why the investigation into Pitt was closed after physical and verbal assault allegations in 2016.

The lawsuit demanded that the FBI turn over documents related to the probe after Jolie alleged that she and their children were "physically and verbally abused" by Pitt while aboard a private plane several years ago.

"Ms. Doe has been seeking the withheld information for [several] years in an effort to ensure that her children receive qualified... care and... counseling to address the harm suffered... Information withheld by DOJ and the FBI contains evidence of the harm," Jolie's complaint reads.

The complaint noted that the persistent denial of that information to the actress, who was a victim of the assault herself, has continued to hamper her efforts to obtain for her children necessary ongoing care and medical attention. It added that it had also further harmed the "children in the family law system."

Angelina Jolie Files FBI Lawsuit in Connection With Brad Pitt's Assault Allegations

Puck reported that Angeline Jolie told an FBI agent in 2016 that Brad Pitt "physically and verbally assaulted" her and their children while traveling on the private plane.

According to the agent's notes at the time, the actor was allegedly drinking when he took Jolie to the back of the plane, grabbed her shoulders, and shouted, "You're f-ing up this family" while shaking her.

The actress also alleged that another physical altercation occurred on the same flight, causing her to sustain injuries, including on her elbow. Jolie also said that the actor had poured beer on her.

In 2016, Pitt was also investigated for child abuse by both the FBI and the Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services.

The actor allegedly got physical with his then-15-year-old son, Maddox, after the boy intervened in a fight between the former couple that occurred on the family's private plane. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt divorced shortly after the alleged incident on the plane.

Brad Pitt Denies Allegations of Physical Abuse

Brad Pitt previously denied the allegations of physical abuse and that he hurt his son. No charges were ever filed against the "World War Z" actor.

In September 2016, a source told People that the actor did not strike Maddox during the heated mid-flight argument with the actress.

The insider noted that Pitt was drunk, and a parent-child argument between him and the actress escalated since it was "not handled in the right way." However, the source said the actor did not hurt his son or the actress.

"He is emphatic that it did not reach the level of physical abuse, that no one was physically harmed," the insider noted.

In her petition for divorce, Angelina Jolie asked for sole physical custody of their six children. But in May last year, a judge ruled in favor of Brad Pitt to share joint custody of their kids.

Judge John Ouderkirk had issued a tentative custody order, ruling that the former couple will split time with their children.
