Chicago Shooting Started in an Argument
Chicago authorities are investigating the tragic incident that unfolded early Sunday morning on the city's West Side, involving a fatal gunshot.
The Chicago shooting occurred in the Austin area, near the intersection of Iowa and Cicero. Police reports indicate that the incident originated when a large gathering assembled to pay homage to an individual who had died in a car accident four years ago, CBS News noted.
Following a fuss, the situation rapidly escalated, resulting in a chaotic exchange of gunfire. A close friend of the woman who lost her life recounted the harrowing sequence of events, sharing, "I think somebody came from this end of the alley shooting, shooting at the crowd they saw. Many of them returned fire, and all types of chaos ensued."
As a result of the shooting, multiple individuals sustained injuries and were promptly transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Among the victims, a 17-year-old female was shot in the leg and is currently in stable condition at West Suburban Hospital.
Additionally, five others were taken to Stroger Hospital for medical care. A 27-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound to the leg but remains stable.
Another 29-year-old male sustained critical injuries after being shot in the chest and arm.
Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man who was shot in the arm is showing signs of recovery. A 28-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, both shot in the ear and leg/arm, respectively, are also in good health as they recuperate.
As investigators comb the scene for evidence, early findings reveal that over 100 shell casings were recovered in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, with additional evidence discovered hours later.
Two Others Fatally Shot in Separate Chicago Shooting Incidents
In a series of separate incidents, Chicago experienced a surge in gun violence resulting in multiple casualties. Minutes before the tragic Chicago shooting incident at the memorial gathering, authorities reported the killing of one individual and the injury of another in downtown Chicago, per ABC7.
A 34-year-old man was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in the 300 block of East Huron Street. He was swiftly transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Concurrently, a 27-year-old male arrived at the same hospital with a gunshot wound to the left leg, though his current condition remains unknown. The circumstances surrounding this incident remain unclear, and no suspects have been apprehended.
Another tragic shooting unfolded, resulting in one man's death and a woman's injury a few hours later in the Little Italy neighborhood.
Shots rang out in the 1300 block of South Throop Street at around 4:20 am. The 30-year-old male victim suffered a headshot wound and was promptly transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Meanwhile, a 31-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to her left arm. She managed to drive herself to the University of Illinois Hospital, where she is currently reported to be in good condition.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and detectives are diligently working to gather further details.
