Texas: Patrick Mahomes' Dad Arrested for DUI Ahead of Super Bowl, Now Facing Up To 10 Years in Prison
Patrick Mahomes Sr., a former Major League Baseball player and father of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes Jr., was arrested on suspicion of DUI for the third time on Saturday in Tyler, Texas, according to NBC Sports.
The arrest took place in Smith County, an hour and a half east of Dallas, and Patrick Mahomes dad remained in custody at the Smith County Jail as of Sunday, with a bond set at $10,000, The US Sun noted.
This marks Mahomes Sr.'s third DUI incident, with the second charge occurring in 2018, where he pleaded guilty and served a 40-day sentence.
He also faced DUI charges in 1994 and was arrested for public intoxication during a 2016 game between TCU and Texas Tech.
No injuries occurred, but Patrick Mahomes dad could face two to 10 years in prison under Texas law, considering this would be his third DUI offense.
While this legal issue is unrelated to his son Patrick Mahomes Jr., the Chiefs quarterback, it presents a potential distraction as the team prepares for Super Bowl LVIII, scheduled to kick off on Sunday at 5:30 PM Central at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Patrick Mahomes Jr.'s Pursuit of Success
Despite the off-field distractions, Patrick Mahomes Jr. is gearing up for his seventh season and an opportunity to secure his third Super Bowl ring, per Bleacher Report.
Patrick Mahomes dad expressed pride in his son's achievements, noting the rarity and specialness of competing at the highest level.
"To compete at the highest level is something that is rare and very special," Mahomes Sr. said. "For him to have the amount of success that he's had this early on in his career is just surreal."
While acknowledging Patrick Jr.'s success, Mahomes Sr. refrained from declaring him the greatest of all time (GOAT) in comparison to legends like Tom Brady and Joe Montana.
The quarterback, on the verge of making history, aims to lead the Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, Marca said.
The game holds significance for the Chiefs, who are the reigning Super Bowl champions, having clinched the Vince Lombardi Trophy under Coach Andy Reid in 2020 and 2023.
Off-Field Buzz for the Chiefs
Amidst the Super Bowl preparations, the Chiefs are making headlines off the field.
Notably, tight end Travis Kelce, a key player for the team, is romantically involved with pop star Taylor Swift, ET Online reports.
Swift has become a fixture at Kelce's games, showcasing her support in Chiefs red. Patrick Mahomes Jr.'s wife, Brittany Mahomes, has been seen with Swift at games, and Patrick himself has praised Kelce for maintaining his authentic self amid newfound fame.
"Travis has always been Travis," Mahomes Jr. said during a press conference.
"It's been cool to watch for me because he has all that attention, but he's just been himself the whole time. He's still Travis Kelce. He still will walk through the stadium and treat every person like they're his best friend. And he's going to be like that in the locker room every single day. It hasn't been any different," he concluded.
As the Chiefs navigate both on-field challenges and off-field attention, the looming Super Bowl matchup against the 49ers adds an extra layer of significance to their quest for victory.
The team, known for its recent successes, aims to etch its name in history with another Super Bowl triumph.
