Donald Trump Claimed He Was Tortured Before Taking Georgia Mugshot Phot,; Gets Fact-Checked and Ridiculed
As former president and convicted felon Donald Trump prepares for his debate by holding campaign rallies, he has been claiming that he was tortured when he gave himself up to Georgia authorities to be processed for his Georgia election case. This led a lot of people online to fact-check him and mock him.
According to The Guardian, the claim was first made by the Trump campaign in a fundraising email which claimed the former president was tortured when he was processed in the Georgia case. Many pointed out that even if this was true, it is hypocritical of Trump, who mocked late Republican Senator and war hero John McCain for being tortured by the Vietnamese.
"I want you to remember what they did to me. They tortured me in the Fulton County Jail, and TOOK MY MUGSHOT," wrote Trump in his campaign email, which also promoted coffee cups with his mugshot emblazoned on them. "So guess what? I put it on a mug for the WHOLE WORLD TO SEE!"
Trump has already been convicted of 34 felony charges in the state of New York for falsely reporting hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels so that he could hide his affair to win the election. Much like the New York case, the Georgia elections case is also a state case, which means he cannot pardon himself should he win the presidency. He faces 13 charges in his attempts to overturn the elections in the state.
Many pointed out that when he arrived in Georgia to be processed, the media followed him, and it was well documented that he was only booked, fingerprinted, and photographed for a mugshot and not tortured. This resulted in a ton of posts mocking the convicted felon and presumptive Republican nominee.
"Trump is claiming he was 'tortured' while getting his mug shot taken at the Fulton County jail," one poster tweeted on X. "John McCain knew all about REAL TORTURE, unlike Trump who has NO IDEA what 'TORTURE' is or he would have REQUIRED Hospitalization."
What does Trump mean by this," another tweeted. "Like they inconvenienced/annoyed him or that they did something painful/harmful like pulling his fingernails out? I highly doubt the Secret Service allowed Atlanta PD to truly torture Trump."
"Cry baby Trump now claims that he was tortured when they took his mug shot. Truth is he tortured us with that mug," another posted, while another person wrote, "Trump thinks torture includes photographs and fingerprinting. Was he strip-searched? How many criminals are laughing at him?"
Donald Trump Supporter Who Sent Death Threats to Georgia Prosecutor and Sheriff Pleads Guilty
When Trump had that now-infamous mugshot taken, it resulted in his supporters sending even more death threats to Georgia officials, including Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and Sheriff Patrick Labat, whose staff booked the former president at the Fulton County jail and took that mugshot. One of these men is Arthur Ray Hanson II.
Hanson has now pleaded guilty to sending those death threats, and Assistant US Attorney Bret Hobson is now seeking leniency for him because the Trump supporter "took responsibility for his actions."
Parts of Donald Trump's New York Gag Order Lifted Ahead of Sentencing
In Trump's other state criminal case, Donald Trump has a bit of a reprieve as New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan has now partially lifted his gag order.
In the court order, Trump still cannot discuss any prosecutor, court staffer, or their family members, but he is free to discuss anything else. CNN noted that the partial lifting was made ahead of Trump's scheduled debate with President Joe Biden on Thursday.
