The New York Yankees are reportedly planning to shake up their roster in hopes of improving their World Series chances this season.

The Yankees are in dire need of another starting pitcher, and reports indicated that they could acquire New York Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon along with second baseman Daniel Murphy.

Ken Davidoff of New York Post reported that the Yankees are interested in Murphy, but they could also go after Colon in order to get an additional arm for a possible post-season run this year.

The Yankees are facing stiff competition for Murphy, though, because the San Francisco Giants and the Toronto Blue Jays are also interested in getting the 29-year-old second baseman.

"The Giants, whose second-base position is unsettled, could present a good fit for Murphy. Shoot, the Yankees could, too; they could get Murphy and bring Bartolo Colon back to the Bronx in one fell swoop," Davidoff wrote.

Mike Puma of NY Post also reported that several teams view Colon as a potential trade target before the deadline, especially for teams, who are looking to improve their title chances this season.

The 41-year-old Colon has been playing well for the Mets this season. The 17-year veteran is 8-7 with 82 strikeouts in 113.2 innings this season, making him an ideal choice for the Yankees, who could play without CC Sabathia for the remainder of the season.

The Yankees also struck a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks to acquire Brandon McCarthy, who will start for the Yankees in their upcoming match against the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.

"McCarthy is an experienced starter that we expect to pitch well for us and give us distance," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said of McCarthy via NY Daily News. "I know he's had his struggles, but he seems to have turned it around. He has a good arm and we need him to help us."

The Yankees still need additional arms, though, because they gave up left-hander Vidal Nuno in the deal for McCarthy. Nuno started 14 times and played a total of 17 games with the Yankees this season.
