The Cleveland Cavaliers are still the favorites to land free agent veteran Ray Allen, but reports indicated that the shooting guard could wait until the All-Star break before making a decision.

CSN Washington reported during the weekend that the Cavaliers are still the frontrunners in the race to sign Allen with sources indicating that Cavs general manager David Griffin recently called the sharp-shooting guard to reiterate their interest in acquiring him.

But in an interview with CSN New England, Danny Ainge, the Boston Celtics' president of basketball operations, said that while Allen will be a huge boost to the Cavaliers, he believes that the 39-year-old won't rush his decision.

"Ray can really help them [Cavaliers], but I anticipate that Ray will wait and see the landscape of the NBA," Ainge said. "I just think he might wait and see how everybody's clicking. There's a handful of teams that would love to have Ray on their team right now that are trying to win a championship."

While he is also convinced that Allen will likely join former Miami Heat teammate LeBron James in Cleveland, Ainge said that the 18-year veteran might wait until January or until the All-Star break. Doing so would give Allen a chance to know what team has the best chance of winning the title this season.

"He may wait until All-Star break or January," Ainge said of Allen. "And just see what teams are playing well, which teams are the healthiest and which team that he thinks that he might fit in, just in the style of play. With new coaches at some different places, he may just want to see how it unfolds before he makes a decision."

Allen, who averaged 9.6 points to go along with 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 73 regular-season games with the Miami Heat last season, is still unsure whether or not he will continue playing next season.

Several teams have already expressed interest in acquiring the former Connecticut standout. Aside from the Cavaliers, the Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers and the Oklahoma City Thunder have reportedly reached out to Allen earlier in the offseason.
