NFL Trade Rumors 2014: Could Denver Broncos Trade Wes Welker to Seattle Seahawks?

The NFL trade deadline is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. EST, and the Denver Broncos could potentially make some waves.

At this point into the season, every team knows what they thrive in and what they lack. With the NFL draft long gone and free agent options more limited than ever, trading is the best alternative.

The Broncos are currently 6-1 and Peyton Manning is having another amazing season. Manning has 22 touchdowns with three interceptions and a 119 passer rating so far this season. The Broncos have one of the best offenses in the league with wide receivers like Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders leading the way.

The two Thomases and Sanders have a combined 1,728 yards and 19 touchdowns this season.

Which leaves many people wondering -- where does Wes Welker fit into this high-powered offense?

Welker has been one of the best slot receivers in the league for a long time, but he doesn't appear to be fitting in with the Broncos with so much talent around him. Welker was suspended earlier in the season, and has had trouble getting open in recent weeks. There's no shame in being the No. 4 receiver on such a great team with so many elite wide outs and tight ends. Manning has never really preferred to throw to his slot receiver very often even going back to his Indianapolis Colts playing days.

With three better and more reliable targets on the team, the Broncos should trade Welker away and get value while they still can.

Who would be the perfect fit? What team plays in the NFC, needs receiver help and has a lot of value to offer?

Enter Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks haven't played quite up to par, but they're still very much in the playoff race. At 4-3, the Seahawks already have as many losses this season as all of last season. Home field advantage looks to be an impossibility, but adding depth to the wide receiver position would help immensely.

The Seahawks currently rank No. 30 in passing offense. In recent years, quarterback Russell Wilson has lost Golden Tate, Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin. Marshawn Lynch and Wilson can't do everything offensively; they need help through the air. According to multiple reports, the Seahawks tried to acquire Julius Thomas via trade from the Broncos earlier this season. Obviously, that didn't happen and the Broncos would never offer Thomas for Harvin, but the Seahawks are trying to fill a void on their team.

Trading Welker to the Seahawks would be a win-win situation for everyone involved.

The Seahawks would get a reliable short yardage receiver who has shown he can adjust to different systems. Welker could also be used on punt returns and other special teams plays. Welker would be a big winner because he would get a lot more playing time. This season Welker has just 19 receptions. In the past, we've seen Welker catch nearly 19 balls in a single game. Even the Broncos would come out big winners. By trading away Welker to the Seahawks, they could get a player or most likely draft picks in return. Why keep Welker on the roster when he's barely contributing anyway?

The Broncos also don't have to worry about trading within the AFC West division or the conference. Trading Welker away to the NFC would be wise because the Broncos would only have to play his team just once every four years.

The Seahawks have to compete in a tough NFC West with the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers. With wide receiver options so limited, they should make an offer to the Broncos for Welker. The Broncos on the other hand aren't benefiting from having Welker on the roster, so they may as well get value while they still can.
