Saul "Canelo" Alvarez reiterated that he will not avoid a fight against unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin if they cross path next year.

Alvarez, who holds a 44-1-1 record with 31 knockouts, will likely face Miguel Cotto in a highly anticipated showdown, where the winner will have to defend the World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight title against Golovkin.

And in the event he wins against Cotto, Alvarez reiterated that he will not dodge Golovkin despite the reigning World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Organization (IBO) middleweight champion's impressive record.

Golovkin, who is set to defend his titles against Martin Murray in February, has a perfect 31-0 record with 28 knockout wins, but Alvarez said that Golovkin's record is deceiving, pointing out that the 32-year-old has yet to face a top-tier opponent in his career.

"Golovkin is a great fighter, very strong, and at this time everyone is afraid of him because he's knocking everyone out," Alvarez said via BoxingScene. "But, you also have to take a look at who he's knocking out. The most important thing is that he is a great fighter. I did some sparring with him, he is very strong. Yes, I'd like to [fight him]."

Alvarez will likely face Cotto in May, where a win could set up his clash with Golovkin in September if the unbeaten Kazakh manages to defend his titles against Murray successfully.

Alvarez recently reiterated that he is determined to take major Mexican holiday fight dates next year - the Cinco De Mayo weekend on May 2 and Mexican Independence Day weekend on Sept. 2.

Floyd Mayweather Jr., took both fight dates over the past two years and recently insisted that he is not willing to change his plan, but Alvarez is determined to take the fight date, pointing out that a Mexican fighter should headline bouts on those fight dates.

"As I've said and I'll say it again. I am going to fight on May 2 and I'm not going to move from the date," Alvarez said via Bad Left Hook. "Everything being maneuvered is to fight on May 2 and September 12, and I'm not going to back away from those dates for nothing."
