Jennifer Aniston on Divorce From Brad Pitt: It Wasn’t 'Painful’
In a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Jennifer Aniston revealed that her highly publicized 2005 divorce from Brad Pitt was not painful for her, Us Weekly reports.
The "Cake" actress expressed her belief that the media continuously portrayed the end of her relationship with Pitt as something more hurtful than it was for her.
"I don't find it painful," Aniston revealed. "I think it's a narrative that follows you because it's an interesting headline. It's more of a media-driven topic."
When asked whether she and Pitt continue to keep in touch, Aniston replied, "We've exchanged good wishes and all that sort of stuff to each other, but it's not a constant thing."
Aniston also discussed her current relationship with Justin Theroux, which she has chosen to keep more private than her marriage to Pitt because she now steers away from the tabloids.
"The main thing is to try to just keep refocusing back on what you know is true and what makes you guys happy," Aniston said about her relationship with Theroux. "We know what our truth is. [The rest] is all just static."
And though she admits now that tabloids are "all just static" for her, Aniston did confess that she previously struggled with ignoring the media gossip.
"There was a period where I was hell-bent on saying, 'That's not true, that's not right, that's not fair.' And now I just think you have to let it roll off your back and you realize, I think everyone knows it's all BS and, like, soap opera on paper," she said.
Aniston currently stars in the film "Cake," which Huffington Post reports might be in the running for an Oscar nomination. In the film, Aniston undergoes a drastic make-under to portray the leading role of Claire Simmons, a woman who consumes pain medication and illegal drugs in an attempt to manage her hallucinations about a widower's wife.
When asked about her character in "Cake," Aniston responded, "I was really ready to, you know, just disappear and really go into the depths of a character."
