'Rambo 5' Movie News and Release Date: Sylvester Stallone Announces 'Last Blood' Title Ahead of Upcoming Rocky Balboa, Greg Scarpa Films
It looks like "Rambo" will have one last hurrah.
Series star Sylvester Stallone announced that the title of the next "Rambo" film will be "Last Blood." He made the announcement on his official Twitter account, in which the tweet reads:
Doing Scarpa based on Gangster Greg Scarpa after LAST BLOOD RAMBO...
— Sylvester Stallone (@TheSlyStallone) December 28, 2014
The tweet also reveals that the Hollywood legend will first be working on a film dubbed "Scarpa," which is about mafia captain-turned-FBI informant Greg Scarpa.
The title implies that "Last Blood" will be the final movie in the "Rambo" series, but with the way things are in the entertainment business, fans wouldn't be surprisesd to see a "Last Blood: Part II," or something to that effect.
Not much else is known about "Last Blood," other than the fact that it will be the next film in the "Rambo" series, which dates back to 1982's "First Blood" and starred Stallone as Vietnam veteran John Rambo.
A potential release date for "Last Blood" is not yet known.
However, it's worth noting that, as Variety reports, Stallone will be co-starring in "Creed," which will have Sly reprising his role as Rocky Balboa. In "Creed," Balboa will be training Apollo Creed's grandson, who will be played by Michael B. Jordan. Apollo Creed starred in the first three "Rocky" films, and made a brief appearence in "Rocky 4." Meanwhile, Jordan's popularity spiked with the release of the critically acclaimed "Fruitvale Station."
Here are a couple of key questions that are worth asking; Can Stallone still draw crowds, and is the "Rambo" franchise still relevant here in 2015? Yes, and yes, for a couple of simple reasons.
Stallone has made big bucks with "The Expendables" franchise, with the third film in that series launching this past year. Plus, the most recent "Rambo" film was released in 2008, and grossed over $100 million on a budget of $50 million. With that in mind, it's easy to see how a new "Rambo" film could do well even over 30 years after the release of the original film.
As long as it's done right, that is.
