‘Good Morning America’ Cast & News: Host Lara Spencer Splits From Husband After 15 Years
"Good Morning America" co-host Lara Spencer and former CNN host David Haffenreffer have ended their marriage of 15 years, Page Six reports.
The couple issued a statement obtained by Page Six announcing their split, but explained that their decision is amicable.
"After a lot of thought, care and consideration, we have decided to end our marriage," Spencer and Haffenreffer said. "It's a sad decision that did not come easily, especially because we respect and love each other and our children."
But despite the end of their marriage, Spencer and Haffenreffer insist that they will continue raising their children amicably.
"[Our children] remain our top priority," the couple said. "We will raise them and care for them together."
Page Six notes that Spencer and Haffenreffer are still on great terms and have even planned a family vacation together with their children.
Meanwhile, E! News suggests that the split comes as a surprise because there were no public signs of a rift in the former couple's marriage.
"I want to say 'hot, sexy kitten,' but in reality it's 'funny best friend,'" Spencer once told Good Housekeeping when asked how she would describe herself as a wife. "All we do is laugh together."
Spencer and Haffenreffer first tied the knot in 2000 when Spencer was still a contributor to "Good Morning America," according to Us Weekly.
Spencer was later named a lifestyle anchor on "GMA" in 2011 and a full-time host in April. Meanwhile, her husband was hired as a reporter for CNN's morning show "Ahead of the Curve," Us Weekly adds.
At the time of her wedding, Spencer opted to have the ceremony in South Hampton, the place where she claims her courtship with Haffenreffer began, Page Six reports.
In a video for Martha Stewart Weddings, Spencer said, "[South Hampton] is where our courtship began and where it continues. The dream is my closest friends and family in a place that's really special to me."
