Shonda Rhimes, the head writer and executive producer of the hit series "Grey's Anatomy," has been receiving a lot of social media hate for killing off one of the show's main and most beloved characters, Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd, on the episode that aired April 23, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The social media hate, which has since died down, erupted again on May 14 when the "Grey's Anatomy" season finale featured a voicemail of McDreamy telling Meredith that he loves her.

"Grey's Anatomy" fans were once again reminded of McDreamy's passing, prompting them to slam Rhimes via Twitter for the second time.

And though she remained quiet during the initial Twitter attack she received on April 23, Rhimes decided to clap back on May 14 when a fan tweeted that they hated her.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Twitter user @MamiMiaa wrote that "Grey's Anatomy" fans hated Rhimes for killing off McDreamy to which she replied with her own snarky tweet.

In addition to receiving a series of hateful tweets from "Grey's" fans who oppose McDreamy's death, Rhimes must also deal with a Change petition that a "Grey's" fan has created to bring back McDreamy on the show, EW reports.

The petition titled "Bring Dr. Derek 'McDreamy' Shepherd BACK!!!" urges Rhimes and her co-writers to turn the McDreamy death episode into a dream sequence in order to bring McDreamy back on the show.

Courtney Williams, the campaign creator, writes that she -- along with many other "Grey's" fans -- has been loyal in watching the show unfold for the last ten years and now feel betrayed by Rhimes' decision to kill McDreamy off.

"You have people out here donating blood and organs trying to save lives, wanting to become doctors and all from committing to this television show..just to let us down like this. You've destroyed us. COMPLETELY!" Williams writes.

So far, the Change petition has 105,008 signatures. The petition is 44,992 signatures away from reaching its goal of 150,000 supporters.

Rhimes has yet to respond publicly to the Change petition.
