Iggy Azalea took to Twiter on Monday, June 8 to announce the cancellation of her performance at the Pittsburgh LGBTQ pride event following the backlash she received from several LGBTQ organizations, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Azalea was scheduled to perform in Pittsburgh on Saturday, June 13, but several LGBTQ groups withdrew from the event because of the homophobic statements Azalea has made in the past.

"Our board voted last week to not march in the Pittsburgh Pride parade, due to the insensitive choice of Iggy Azalea as headliner," said Vanessa Davis, head of Pittsburgh chapter of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Jeffrey Miller, a member of LGBTQ group First United, also spoke to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and said that he would not be attending the Pittsburgh Pride events.

"We'll be back in future years," said Miller. "But this year, we couldn't think of a way to attend while separating ourselves from the issues involved."

Music Mic notes the many times Azalea has tweeted racist and homophobic statements in the past prior to becoming the successful mainstream artist that she is today.

Although Azalea has since apologized for her past mistakes, she is still receiving backlash for those tweets, which ultimately forced her to withdraw from her performance.

On Monday night, Azalea tweeted an apology to her fans and the people of Pittsburgh.

"This has been a difficult decision as I truly support the event and LGBTQIA communities, however I feel my participation at this point would only serve to further distract from the true purpose of the event," she wrote.

Confirmation that Azalea won't participate in the pride event comes on the heels of her recently canceled "Great Escape" Tour. Azalea took to Twitter to confirm the tour cancellation and assured her fans that the tour would resume next year once her upcoming album is completed.
