Square Enix's next installment to its "Kingdom Hearts" series is expected to release later this year. However, unannounced features of the upcoming action role-playing game began leaking this month.

Detail listings of "Kingdom Hearts 3" was first unearthed by administrators of a "Kingdom Hearts"-based website while browsing through the LinkedIn page of a Square Enix game designer.

KH13 wrote that "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" was indicated as a game compatible for PS4 and PS3. If this is indeed true, the news outlet stated that the LinkedIn page also confirms some possible information about "Kingdom Hearts III" such as "Pixar involvement, a possible Gummi Ship system and possible multiplayer."

The owner/s of the LinkedIn page purportedly provided the following contributions while working on the game from August 2014 to June 2015:

"Kingdom Hearts 2.9" (PS3, PS4) Development (10 Months)

  • Game idea planning and documentation
  • Game Check and balance

  • Attraction Flow planning and documentation

"Kingdom Hearts III" (PS4, Xbox One) Development (10 Months)

The listing can be accessed by signing in to LinkedIn and typing "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" on the search bar.

The main takeaway from the employee resume, though, is the mention a multiplayer element of the upcoming game.

The "Kingdom Hearts" series has always been a one-player gig. If, in fact, a multiplayer component will be added to the franchise's third title, it will undoubtedly infuse new life to the "Kingdom Hearts" lore. It would signal the first time that Square Enix will employ a free-for-all formula to the series ever since the inception of "Kingdom Hearts" back in 2002.

Game Rant said that the extent of how the multiplayer option in the game will be featured cannot be fully determined. It might range from "inserting local or online co-op into the Kingdom Hearts franchise, to leaderboards for high scores, to some sort of competitive online battle mode."
