Director Lars Von Trier is known for his bad boy ways and derisive, audacious cinematic bent. His films continually draw attention for their sexuality, language and purpose. Nymphomaniac: Volumes I and II will undoubtedly continue to garner Trier attention due to America's obsession and repulsion of anything deemed erotic.

So what is the film about? Well, both volumes of Nymphomaniac take place through Joe's point of view. Joe is what many would label a sex addict. Yet she doesn't see herself in that negative light. She thinks sex is as necessary to one's life as is food and water. Both volumes are meant to be seen, Volume II isn't a sequel, rather it was cut into two movies because it would be a four-hour epic.

For a bit more information, just think of it this way: Volume I features a younger Joe, and Volume II features an aged Joe. The casting is absurdly strong with with Charlotte Gainsbourg playing the lead and other characters being portrayed by the likes of Shia Labeouf, Stellan Skarsgård, and Stacy Martin.

You can watch the film on Amazon Video on Demand and iTunes by clicking here. For now the film is only available to rent and yes, both volume's need to be purchased seperately.

Critical acclaim hasn't been unanimous, but its been assuredly solid. The first volume of the film has been certified fresh by Rotten Tomatoes and has a 7.5 user rating (out of ten) as of this writing on IMDB.

Some of the Nymphomaniac's criticism comes from a New York City theater's curious decision to screen the unrated film during the afternoon matinee period. Many mothers take their young children to view flicks at that time. One of those mothers, Marcy Dermansky, had this to say:

"That's a little appalling to include it in the series." She went on to say that, "The babies don't sleep through all of it... Even if the kid doesn't really process it ... as a parent, having that much violence or nudity on with her in the room just doesn't really work for me."
