The announcement regarding the removal of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as the lead stars of HBO's hit series, True Detective, garnered a lot of criticism. The tandem created a superb partnership that made the first series a major hit. Some people, on the other hand, were not surprised with the news as this was supposed to be the plan right from the start.

In line with the removal of these stars, Brad Pitt came out as one of the top names for a possible replacement. No other names have since been dropped. According to some rumors, a female lead might be a part of the cast for the second season.

The second season will most likely have two directors as well. According to Cary Fukunage, season 1 director, it was not easy to direct the series alone. He had to spend a lot of time dealing with certain details. Some of the load could be taken off his back, should he be given a partner to work with whom to share the work.

Nic Pizzolatto, the creator of the show, added that there would be some drastic changes taking place this season. The entire season will not necessarily rely on the same story line until the end. Every week, different stories might be presented to keep the viewers interested.

The approach to be taken by the creators this season will still be naturalistic. They reportedly want to keep the mystery and thrill in a more relaxed environment. The series will still be action-filled and more mysteries are yet to be solved. Given the number of people who are anticipating the airing of the next season's first episode, HBO is expected to announce the release date soon. In the meantime, the details of the cast as well as spoilers and the final premiere date are yet to be known.
