James Cameron's 'Avatar 2' Will Start Shooting This Year; Sequel Will Not Be Released 2018
James Cameron's "Avatar 2" will start shooting this fall but the release date has been pushed back. It is not known when the first film of the original's planned four sequels is coming out but it will not be in 2018, according to Director James Cameron. Some reports say that it may come out in 2019 instead.
Sigourney Weaver who plays Grace in "Avatar" has revealed that fans will love "Avatar 2." IGN reports that the actress was the one who confirmed the shooting of the sequel this year.
The cast of "Avatar 2" has also started training for the film. Sigourney Weaver has also expressed her excitement for the scripts of all the coming sequels. The actress called the project "ambitious" and worries how they will be able to bring everything to life on the big screen.
James Cameron's "Avatar" debuted in 2009 and it is not known when "Avatar 2" will be released. James Cameron shut down the rumors of the sequel's rumored release date in December 2018. The reason for the delay is because the director plans to make all sequels at the same time and it will be a huge task, not to mention time-consuming.
GameSpot reports that "Avatar 2" will center on Sully (played by Sam Worthington) and Neytiri's (played by Zoe Saldana) family. The sequel will take place 8 years after the events of the original film. The sequel will offer a bigger glimpse of Pandora but will ultimately revolve around the family theme.
Other than the main cast of the original film, it is not known who will be coming back for "Avatar 2." It was previously reported that the next sequels will be released in 2020, 2022 and 2023 respectively.
