On Sunday morning, troubled actress Amanda Bynes was arrested by the California Highway Patrol for driving under the influence, People reports.

The 28-year-old actress was taken into custody at 3 a.m on Sunday after being stopped by police on the highway. Bynes was then "charged with a misdemeanor, held on a $15,000 bail and released later on Sunday afternoon," according to People.

E! News reports that prior to her arrest, Bynes was traveling westbound on Riverside Drive in Sherman Oaks. She then approached the intersection at a red light on Van Nuys Boulevard.

Though she stopped for the red light, she stopped in the middle of the intersection, and was then pulled over and "given a series of field sobriety tests, which she was unable to complete," officials told E! News.

After failure to pass the sobriety tests, Bynes was then taken to the CPH West Valley Office and was given a drug evaluation test that determined she was under the influence of an undisclosed substance, E! News reports.

Bynes was previously arrested for a DUI back in 2012. Following her 2012 DUI arrest, Bynes was placed on three-years' probation, and was also ordered to complete a three-month alcohol education program as part of the plea deal, according to E! News.

Bynes' recent DUI arrest may come as a shock to fans due to Bynes' apparent road to recovery following a series of bizarre public outbursts that Bynes blamed on her use of marijuana.

"Amanda currently is on zero medication," Bynes' attorney Tamar Arminak said in a statement to Us Weekly last April. "She's devoted to living her life as healthy as possible. Her family is closely involved with her day-to-day life, but they try to give her as much autonomy as possible."

Arminak continued, "Her family is closely involved with her day-to-day life but they try to give her as much autonomy as possible," explains Arminak. "She's doing extremely well. Her primary focus is bonding with her family and being a student."
