Mexican boxing legend Juan Manuel Marquez is eager to see the bout between Saul Alvarez and Miguel Cotto, but the former world champion said that Canelo should give into what Cotto is asking for.

Recent reports indicated that the two sides are already discussing the possible showdown, but no deal is imminent at this point because of several factors. Marquez said that if Alvarez really wants to prove that he is willing to face Cotto, he should give in to what the Puerto Rican is asking for.

"If he really wants the fight and wants to show he is the best Mexican fighter, he has to let Cotto ask for what he wants," Marquez said of Alvarez via Tha Boxing Voice. "In the ring is where you show how great you are and that's where you show how great of a fighter you are."

Alvarez recently revealed in an interview that Cotto's camp is hard to negotiate with. The 24-year-old Mexican said that he wants an equal split in terms of revenue and the fight should have a catch weight even if it will be a showdown for Cotto's World Boxing Council middleweight title.

"This fight has to be a 50-50 split. We are at a difficult stage in negotiations," Alvarez said via BoxingScene. "I want to stay at junior middleweight. If the fight with Cotto is done it will be for the middleweight championship, but it would be agreed upon for 155-pounds."

But for Marquez, Alvarez has no right to demand at this point, saying that Cotto should get the bigger share. He pointed out that Cotto is a more proven fighter compared to Alvarez.

"Cotto should get more. But if Canelo beats Cotto, then for the rest of his career he can ask for what he wants but first he has to beat Cotto," Marquez said.

If the two sides fail to find a common ground in the negotiation, Alvarez hinted that he is ready to consider other options, but he is determined to fight on Cinco De Mayo weekend on May 2, despite threats from Floyd Mayweather's camp that the pound-for-pound king will also fight on the same day.
