It seems like trashing Donald Trump and his policies during high profile award ceremonies is the new thing. Meryl Streep did it in Golden Globes, Casey Affleck did it during Spirit Awards, and now Jimmy Kimmel and other actors hopped on the same train during Oscars 2017.

According to Forbes, the Oscars 2017 also witnessed President Donald Trump being mentioned in speeches. Several Hollywood actors, an Iranian director, and host Jimmy Kimmel slammed Trump's anti-immigrant policies and also made fun of his Twitter habits.

It started from the beginning when Jimmy Kimmel threw few hard jabs at Trump in his opening monolog. Kimmel sarcastically pointed out Trump calling Meryl Streep "overrated" when the actress criticized the president for a mocking a handicap reported.

"Please join me in giving Meryl Streep a totally undeserved round of applause. The highly overrated Meryl Streep, everyone," Fox News quoted Kimmel. The host further stated that Oscars were airing in "225 countries that now hate us".

Another joke Kimmel threw at Trump was when he said, "I want to say thank you to President Trump. I mean, remember last year when it seemed like the Oscars were racist?" Kimmel didn't leave Donald Trump's family from the mockery as well. By the end of his opening monolog, Kimmel added. "Nice dress by the way - is that an Ivanka?"

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, who won Best Foreign Language Film for "The Salesman", took Trump-slamming to a serious note. What was till now sarcastic comments and backhanded jabs at Trump became emotional.

Farhadi admitted that he chose not to attend the Oscars because of Trump's travel ban. He did it out of respect for the people of his country and the other six nations who were disrespected by the immigrants travel ban law.

Farhadi further encouraged the filmmakers for making movies and connecting nations. He stated that the movies are a source of much-needed empathy between nations which are being divided by politics.

As per Fox News, actor Gael Garcia Bernal, who won the Best Animation picture award, said, "As a Mexican, as a Latin American, as a migrant worker, as a human being, I'm against any wall that wants to separate us." Some other invitees proudly wore blue ribbons on the red carpet to show they support the American Civil Liberties Union. The union has been working non-stop to oppose Trump's travel ban.
