"Rogue One" is a standalone film by Gareth Edwards. In a Reddit AMA, he revealed that he desperately pined for the approval of "Star Wars" creator George Lucas. Especially so since the movie is supposed to take place before the events of "A New Hope."

According to ABC News, Edwards did the Reddit AMA this week and he revealed some interesting tidbits about the creation and filming of "Rogue One." The director explained that Lucas came for a visit before the shooting of the film.

Edwards said that he was relieved to know that Lucas approved of "Rogue One" after the production of the film. He adds that it was important to him to win the "Star Wars" franchise creator's approval and he'd trade his good word for anyone else's any day.

Fans asked in the thread why the last act of "Rogue One" had to be redone and why some parts were cut. Edwards answered that time was of the essence and he wanted to get the film to the climax as quickly as it could before the audience got bored.

Comic Book reports that one of the biggest changes they had to make in "Rogue One" was to put the tower in the base. They had to reshoot the scenes there because the tower was originally at the end of the beach which could be seen in some trailers of the film with Cassian and Jyn.

Edwards also revealed in the AMA that he had a personal cameo in "Rogue One." He didn't specifically say which scene he was but teased that his character was one of the soldiers who handed over the Death Star plans to a very important figure in the franchise later on.
